Liz Black was born in Fort Jay, New York where, at the young age of five, she started emceeing school events and home shows.
After high school, Black became a full time model, appearing in TV commercials and on billboard advertising. After eighteen years in the modeling business, Black accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and made a pledge to no longer audition for cigarette ads, alcohol ads, or anything that would not promote the well being of young people or her commitment to God.
In 1990, Black began touring with Al Dixon Life Games, a group of athletes with the mission to make a difference in the lives of young people. For the next eleven years, Black toured and helped establish a youth and young adult outlet called The Christian Jam Network.
In 2001, New Mercies Café “A Gospel Experience & Showcase,” was born. Now, after ten years, New Mercies Café is one of the top gospel café’s in the New York tri-state area.
In 2002, Black became a graduate of the National Broadcasters Training School. She sat under the apprenticeship of veteran radio personality Kevin Cottrell of Salem Communications, WMCA-570/WWDJ-970. Black was also heard daily on 970 WWDJ with “The Wake Up Call” show, where she co-hosted with Cottrell.
From 2002-2008 Black hosted a weekly show called “Gospel Grooves,” on NJ/NY’s WFDU 89.1 FM, where she brought to the airwaves “the hottest gospel music this side of Heaven.” She has guest-hosted on the “Yolanda Adams Morning Show, “Midday Inspiration” and has appeared as a regular guest host for Bishop Hezekiah Walker’s “Afternoon Praise” on 1190AM WLIB.
Currently Black hosts "Sunday Praise" on 1190 WLIB from 10am - 3pm, New York's only 24 hour Gospel station."
