A native of Thomasville, Georgia, Patrick Lundy was initiated into music ministry by playing the piano at the First Missionary Baptist Church before his feet could touch the pedals.
In 1985, Lundy relocated to Washington, D.C. and matriculated at Howard University, earning a degree in Music Business with a concentration in Management and Voice. While at Howard University, Lundy assisted the renowned Dr. J. Weldon Norris with the Howard University Choir and served as Assistant Director of the Howard Gospel Choir under the direction of Arphelius Paul Gatling, III.
Lundy has served at several churches in the Washington Metropolitan Area, including as Minister of Music at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. He is also the former Music Director of the internationally acclaimed Eastern High School Choir founded by Dr. Joyce Garrett. Currently, Lundy is serving as Director of Fine Arts at Reid Temple A.M.E. Church in Glenn Dale, Maryland where Rev. Dr. Lee P. Washington is Senior Pastor.
In July 1996, Lundy visited the Holy Land as part of the Jerusalem 3000 Celebration sponsored by the Christian Music Association. In May 1998, Lundy accompanied the Pasadena Community College Gospel Choir to Germany with director Evangelist Betty Griffin-Keller, and in June 2000 traveled to Africa’s Gambia Region with the Ebenezer A.M.E. Church Mass Choir and its Senior Minister of Church Worship and Administration, Minister Byron Cage.
In 1994, Lundy founded the Ministers of Music. Lundy & The Ministers of Music (PL & MOM) have appeared with a host of national artists including Dorinda Clark-Cole, Karen Clark-Sheard, Kirk Franklin, Jennifer Holliday, Donald Lawrence, Dorothy Norwood, Edwin Hawkins, Walter Hawkins and Tramaine Hawkins. The choir has also made numerous appearances on BET’s “Bobby Jones Gospel” and TV One’s “Gospel of Music.” On January 18, 2009, the choir participated in the Presidential Inaugural “We Are One” concert, performing with Bruce Springsteen and Beyonce. The choir also participated in the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball, accompanying Mariah Carey and Shakira.
Since 1994, this gospel group has recorded five CDs and has been nominated for Stellar Awards, African-American Religious Connection Awards, and Washington Area Music Association Awards. In August 2006, PL & MOM was named Artist of Year and honored with Album of the Year and Song of the Year for “In The Fellowship,” (written by Lundy) at the first annual En Sound Music Awards. The Ministers will release their 6th CD in 2010, as it was recorded in November 2009 as their 15th anniversary celebration with special guest, Lady Trammaine Hawkins.
Lundy is a highly sought-after accompanist, director, composer, arranger and clinician. Artists including Rev. Milton Biggham and The Georgia Mass Choir, Minister Donald Malloy, as well as gospel singers Dottie Peoples and Bishop Paul S. Morton and The FGBCF Mass Choir have recorded his compositions. At the Bahá’í Global Music Festival, thousands from all over the world sang his arrangement of “Let There Be Peace on Earth” in June 2002 in New York City.
Annually, Lundy assists Dr. Garrett in training and conducting youth and adult choirs for the nationally taped TV specials, The Kennedy Center Honors and Christmas in Washington. Over the years, Lundy has continued to bless others through a variety of projects, including his collaboration with Dr. Joyce Garrett in the production of a television special, “A Capital Christmas Celebration,” featuring the Alfred Street Baptist Church Choir, The Temple Choir of Reid Temple AME Church, the Eastern Alumni Singers and PL & MOM.
